A few weeks back, I was stunned by what I saw at church.
That morning, I had decided to worship in a church close to my apartment.
So, during the choir ministration, I noticed a young lady was putting on a very short skirt.
She has been a member of the choir for a while.
And as I later understood, she has been warned by the church elders over her indecent dressings.
But that morning, I was dumbfounded.
How could someone put on that kind of dress to God's service?
Her skirt was so short that more than half of her thighs were visible.
Of course, there are people in the congregation that would be distracted.
And surprisingly, she wasn't even concerned about her immoral clothing.
But that brings the next conversation.
What does the bible say about dress code?
Is it a sin to put on trousers or pants to the church?
Should women compulsorily put on a head covering in God's service?
How should a woman dress according to the Bible?
What does the Bible say about showing off your body?
The truth is, God wants us, males and females, to dress modestly all the time.
And thankfully, there are bible verses about dress codes that we can learn from.

We are children of light, and therefore, everything about us must display that.

Bible verses about Dress Code
1. Deuteronomy 22:5
A woman must not wear men's clothing, nor a man wear women's clothing, for theLord your God detests anyone who does this.

This is one of the commonest scriptures you will find discussing how we should dress as Christians.
This is truly important for cross-dressing – that is, men or women that put on the clothing of the other sex.
But the truth is, this scripture isn't what we think it is.
In times past, God had instructed the Jews to keep many of his laws.
This verse is just one of those laws that should be obeyed by them.
In fact, there are more than 600 laws given to the Israelites through Moses.
A quick look at verses 11 says, "Do not wear clothes of wool and linen woven together," and verse 9 says, "Do not plant two kinds of seed in your vineyard; if you do, not only the crops you plant but also the fruit of the vineyard will be defiled."
You will agree we don't observe all these today as Christians.
And that's because we have been set free into liberty by Christ.
Am I saying God loves indecent dressing? No.
It is essential to take the scripture into context.
Many churches frown at women putting on men's clothing and vice versa.
But honestly, it is difficult to determine what clothing is for men and vice versa.
At best, we must be led by our conscience and dress modestly
Finally, there is no need to criticize the decision taken by your church's leadership.
If your church demands a specific type of dress code, simply obey and continue serving God.
2. 1 Timothy 2:9-10
I also want the women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety, adorning themselves, not with elaborate hairstyles or gold or pearls or expensive clothes, 10but with good deeds, appropriate for women who profess to worship God.

God requires that we dress modestly.
He is not against wearing expensive clothing or looking beautiful.
But as much as we should, our dressing should not look immoral or indecent.
We must display humility and the fear of God in every aspect of our lives.
There are many reasons I am fond of my wife.
She rarely dresses to expose parts of her body.
And when she does, I am quick to remind her about dressing well.
There is no dress code spelled out in the scriptures.
But we must use our initiatives to do the right thing.
How would unbelievers feel watching us dress like them?
Wouldn't they be surprised that, as Christians, we are exposing our bodies?
3. 1 Peter 3:3-4
Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes.
4Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God's sight.
The bottom Line
God is not concerned about the kind of dress you put on. (No matter how expensive they are)
God watches our hearts.
He sees our fault and our sins.
That's why we should be more concerned about obeying God's command.
There is no point in dressing elaborately when you are a sinner.
It doesn't add any glory to you or God.
That's why we must repent and be focused on God's laws.
God wants our beauty to radiate from within.
4. 1 Samuel 16:7
But theLord said to Samuel, "Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. TheLord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but theLord looks at the heart."

This is one important scripture about Christian looks and dressing.
When God looks down from heaven, he sees our hearts.
He knows all our flaws and our iniquities.
He is less concerned about your hairstyle, your looks, or what you are wearing.
He does care if it's Gucci or Luis Vuitton.
God only cares about our commitment to his laws and service.
Are we serving him with all our hearts?
Do we love our neighbor as he has commanded us?
The scripture says, "The eyes of theLord are everywhere, keeping watch on the wicked and the good."(Proverbs 15:3)
5. Philippians 4:8
Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.

This is one important scripture that should guide us when we choose our clothing.
Just before you are about to step out of your apartment, ask yourself these questions.
Will Christ have clothed this way?
Would Christ be impressed with how I have dressed?
Is my dressing right or noble before God?
What I am putting on, is it holy?
Will God admire me for my type of dressing?
